I have spent most of my career within the Health and Social Care sector and have extensive experience working with vulnerable, often marginalised communities, including cared for children, adults with learning disabilities, those living with mental illnesses, and senior adults with different forms of dementia.
In addition to sector-specific qualifications, I hold a BSc(Hons) degree in Health and Social Care. For my final dissertation, I conducted a small-scale qualitative research study into the causes and effects of aggression and violence in shared living services.
My interest in hypnotherapy began after I attained my diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) focusing on addictions. Like many of us, I have faced my own mental health challenges and lived with disordered eating for many years as a coping mechanism. Although CBT helped me to understand myself and my thought process better, solution-focused hypnotherapy encouraged me to move forward and develop greater self-reliance, resilience, and more self-control in response to life's challenges.
I studied with Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training (Newcastle Upon Tyne) and graduated in July 2023 with a diploma in Hypnotherapy in Practice (HPD) as well as a diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH). I offer therapy to those experiencing concerns regarding stress, anxiety, depression/low mood, anger, (or any combination) and their associated symptomologies such as panic/anxiety attacks, IBS, self-neglect, feelings of hopelessness and despair, irritability and 'road rage', amongst others.
In addition, I help clients living with pain (including pain that may not have a formal diagnosis) and help them manage this better. However, I advise clients with any concerns regarding receiving hypnotherapy for pain management, to contact their relevant primary healthcare provider for additional advice or support.
I aim to provide a calm, respectful, safe environment where, in collaboration with the client, we create a positive, proactive rapport and therapeutic alliance, which I feel is essential to achieving the client's goals and objectives and getting the very best results from their sessions.
Each session is client-led. For example, the client may set themselves different goals as therapy progresses, and they are free to end their sessions when they feel they have accomplished their objectives.
As well as being registered with the AfSFH, I am registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) and the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH). I receive regular supervision sessions with a qualified supervisor and comply with continued professional development requirements as per the terms of my registration with the aforementioned regulatory bodies.
I hold an enhanced DBS certificate, which is reviewed and renewed yearly and I am fully insured to practise as a therapist.
