BECOMING A MEMBER of AfSFH

The AfSFH is a not-for-profit organisation, which means that every penny of our members’ subscriptions will be used for the benefit of all. There are no stakeholders with greater voting rights or shareholders to pay. The Association actively participates in the voluntary self-regulation process mandated by Government, which means members have a voice and we encourage you to have a say in the future of our profession.

We offer four levels of membership, dependent on your experience and credentials:

  • Associate Membership
  • Student Membership
  • Registered Membership
  • Accredited Membership

Associate Membership

Associate Membership is offered to fully-qualified, but non-practicing, Solution Focused Hypnotherapists.

Associate Members will receive:

  • Newsletters
  • An emailed copy of the journal in PDF format
  • Email updates.

Student Membership

Student membership of the AfSFH is available to those currently enrolled on a solution focused hypnotherapy training course at an accredited school. Accredited Schools are defined as schools that are Associate Members of the UKCHO.

Student member benefits include

  • Listing in the ‘Student’ section of the Association’s online register
  • Online access to the quarterly journal, Hypnotherapy Today
  • Monthly e-newsletter and topical press release
  • Email updates on forthcoming events – training / annual conference
  • Access to student area on website and use of resources such as templates for working in practice, language patterns, etc
  • Use of letters AfSFH-Sm after your name.

Student membership criteria:

  • Demonstrate you are training to be a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist. Hypnotherapy Training and Solution Focused Training must meet the standards defined in the AfSFH Membership Guidance found on the AfSFH website.
  • Demonstrate you are adequately supervised throughout your course.
  • You agree to abide by the Association’s Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics
  • You agree to the Association’s Equal Opportunities Policy
  • You agree to the Association’s Complaints and Disciplinary Policy
  • You have an Enhanced DBS check in place for the duration of any training that involves client contact.
  • You have adequate Professional and Public Liability Insurance in place.

Registered Membership

Registered membership of the AfSFH is available to practitioners who have qualified as a solution-focused hypnotherapist.

Registered member benefits:

  • Listing in the ‘Qualified’ section of the Association’s online register
  • Certificate of Membership
  • Hardcopy (paper format) of the quarterly journal, Hypnotherapy Today
  • Monthly e-newsletter and topical press release
  • Email updates on forthcoming events – training / annual conference
  • Access to registered area on website that includes use of resources such as templates for working in practice, language patterns, press releases, marketing tools, access to any external service discounts on the website, etc
  • 10% discount on CPD events organized by the AfSFH
  • Use of letters AfSFH-Reg after your name.

Registered membership criteria:

  • Demonstrate you have trained to be a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist. Hypnotherapy Training and Solution Focused Training must meet the standards defined in the AfSFH Membership Guidance found on the AfSFH website.
  • You agree to abide by the Association’s Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics
  • You agree to the Association’s Equal Opportunities Policy
  • You agree to the Association’s Complaints and Disciplinary Policy
  • You have an Enhanced DBS check in place not more than 3 years old if you will be working with children or vulnerable adults.
  • You have adequate Professional and Public Liability Insurance in place
  • You will attend a minimum of two CPD events per annum.
  • You will attend supervision at least 6 times per annum.

Accredited Membership

Accredited membership of the AfSFH is available qualified practitioners who wish to be endorsed as an expert in the field by the Association.

Accredited Member Benefits:

  • Listing as a ‘Senior Practitioner’ in the ‘Qualified’ section of the Association’s online Register
  • Certificate of Endorsement
  • Hardcopy (paper format) of the quarterly journal, Hypnotherapy Today
  • Monthly newsletter and topical Press Release
  • Email updates on forthcoming events – training / annual conference
  • Access to accredited area on website that includes use of resources such as templates for working in practice, language patterns, press releases, marketing tools, access to any external service discounts on the website, etc
  • 20% discount on CPD events organize by the AfSFH
  • Marketing and business support
  • Use of letters AfSFH-Acc after your name.

Accredited membership criteria:

  • Demonstrate you have trained to be a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist. Hypnotherapy Training and Solution Focused Training must meet the standards defined on the AfSFH Membership Application form.
  • You must have a nationally recognised Level 4 qualification, eg Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma (HPD).
  • Evidence of participating in a recognised research programme to further the cause of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.
  • You must complete the Quality Assessment standards demonstrating fitness for purpose.
  • You must be registered as a business and evidence accounting and tax registration annually.
  • Demonstrate you are accessing supervision at least 4 times a year.
  • You agree to abide by the Association’s Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics
  • You agree to the Association’s Equal Opportunities Policy
  • You agree to the Association’s Complaints and Disciplinary Policy
  • You have an Enhanced DBS check in place not more than 3 years old.

We’re working towards becoming a registered body to enable members to gain their Enhanced DBS disclosure via the Association. In the meantime:

Remember that this is a legitimate business expense and is therefore tax deductible, so do include the cost in your annual accounts for your tax return.
